Every country or regional data plan you purchase is valid for a specific location and a set timeframe. Your plan will expire as soon as you use up all your data or reach the end of the chosen duration, whichever comes first.
If you travel to another country while a plan is still active, your coverage will depend on the plans you have available. Here are four common scenarios:
Scenario 1: Traveling outside your plan's coverage area
Example: You buy a 7-day USA plan. On day 5, you travel to Canada.
What happens: You cannot use your USA data in Canada, so you will need to buy a new Canadian plan to access the internet. Meanwhile, the 7-day timer on your USA plan will continue ticking down in the background until it expires.
Scenario 2: Traveling to destinations supported by your current data plans/bundles
Example: You activate a 7-day Asia Regional plan in Singapore. On day 5, you travel to Thailand and buy a separate Thailand-specific plan.
What happens: When you have multiple plans covering the same country, the one you bought first will activate first. Since the Asia plan covers Thailand and was purchased earlier, you will use its remaining 2 days first. Your new Thailand plan will only activate once the Asia plan expires.
Scenario 3: Traveling to destinations that require different data plans/bundles
Example: You activate a 7-day Asia Regional plan in Singapore. On day 5, you travel to Malaysia and buy a separate Malaysia-specific plan.
What happens: You will immediately begin using the Malaysia plan as soon as you arrive. However, the timer on your original Asia plan will continue to run in the background until its 7 days are up.
Scenario 4: Returning to a covered country while the timer is still ticking
Example: You activate a 7-day Europe Regional plan in Germany. On day 3, you leave for a country not covered by the plan. On day 5, you return to a covered country (like Italy).
What happens: Because the duration timer never pauses once a plan is activated, your Europe plan will have continued to tick down in the background. When you arrive in Italy on day 5, you will still have 2 days of coverage left to use.
Important reminder: Once a data plan has been purchased or activated, it can no longer be changed or converted to another plan. Please make sure to buy a data plan/bundle that supports the destination/s you will be visiting.
